The benzene, chlorobenzene, phenol and toluene adsorption capacities on AC are shown in Table 1. Both the mass adsorption and the molar adsorption capacities follow the order of phenol > chlorobenzene > toluene > benzene. The highest mass adsorption capacity is phenol at 84.82 mg/g, benzene adsorption capacity is 32.23 mg/g, chlorobenzene adsorption capacity is 62.25 mg/g, toluene adsorption capacity is 43.28 mg/g. Thus, the phenolic substituent group on the benzene ring is much more beneficial for gas adsorption on AC.
