Schilling et al. (2013)
showed that core strength and endurance training program
two times per week for six weeks led to significant
enhancements in 3 different core endurance tests (back
extensor endurance, flexor endurance, and lateral musculature
endurance) in ten untrained college students. But,
there were no improvements in their agility, sprint, and
vertical jump performances. They suggested that strength
training may not be the only contributor to these performance
markers. They stated that agility type exercises
should be added to strength training programs and longer
training programs might be needed for significant improvements
