A powerful,
but also expensive, tool for iodine analysis is its mass spectrometric
determination (e.g. via ICP-MS) with a high specificity and low
detection limits. However, matrices high in iodine often require a
dilution by several orders of magnitude prior to analysis, potentially
amplifying measurement errors on final results. Also, the
high sensitivity of mass spectroscopy implies that various
analytical parameters should be carefully adjusted whilst extraction
procedures may need optimisation
