Records of nematode diseases in insects extend back for more than 350 years
(Aldrovandi, 1623; from Poinar, 1975), yet efforts to use nematodes for the
biological control of pests were not begun until the 1930s (Glaser, 1932), well
after attempts with parasitoids, predators and microbial pathogens. Research
has increased almost exponentially in recent years and entomopathogenic nematology
is emerging as one of the most innovative and dynamic areas in biological
control.
