Little attention has been paid in developing countries to the
study of the individual and family risk factors for violence.2
Efforts should be made to examine why some families and individuals
in Africa with diverse ethnicity remain protected against
homicide, despite poverty, lack of education, unemployment
and lack of opportunities, whereas others experience enduring
patterns of violence.
