Diversity covers gender, age, language, ethnicity, cultural background, sexual
orientation, religious belief systems and values, family responsibilities, ability,
work styles, interpersonal styles, mental ability, physical characteristics and
political beliefs.
Diversity also refers to the other ways in which people are different, such as
educational level, life experience, work experience, socio-economic background,
personality and marital status.
Workplace diversity involves recognising the value of individual differences and
managing them in the workplace.
Think of what a boring world it would be if everyone was exactly the same! It is
the diversity in the workplace that makes it interesting and enjoyable to work
there. Remember that it is not just your colleagues and supervisors who have
diverse backgrounds. Customers, stakeholders and the people you deal with
outside of the company are also diverse. It is important that you are aware of
and acknowledge the diversity
