There are several kinds of public policy. Typically, we tend to think of policies as falling into three large categories: distributive, redistributive, and regulatory. First distributive policies, as the name suggests, distributive services to citizens, such as highway policies that benefit all auto-mobile driver. Second, redistributive policies take from those who have some resource (e.g., money) and redistribute the resource (e.g., redistribute the money to help the poor). These are usually the most controversial types of policies. And last regulatory policies seek to regulate some type of behavior, such as airline safety, health, sanitation, and safety concerns in hospitals, restaurants and food processing plants etc.
