Room Maintenance Protocol 2 pages
POLICY
Correct protocols for performing room maintenance must be followed.
PROCEDURE
1. Room maintenance should be carried out between the hours of 8 am and 5 pm. Only essential
maintenance or maintenance at the request of guests should be completed outside these times.
2. Check with Assistant Manager or Chief Engineer on status of the room.
3. If occupied, unless already requested by the guest, contact the guest and request permission to
complete the task.
4. If unoccupied, assume the room may be occupied. You must knock on the door in a firm audible
manner and following the knock you should announce who you are (i.e. Maintenance). This must be
repeated at least 3 times before entering the room, unless the guest opens the door, acknowledges
you and gives permission to enter.
5. If, after three attempts there is no response carefully open the door, announce yourself again and
ensure the room is not occupied.
6. Place the Maintenance in Progress sign on the outside door handle.
7. Complete the task as fast as possible.
8. Remove any rubbish generated as a result of the maintenance task and ensure the room is
appropriately presented before leaving the room. Contact housekeeping if a more thorough clean is
required such as vacuuming the floor etc.
9. Always ensure the door is shut properly behind you.
10. If a vacant room is to be left out of order all relevant departments including Housekeeping, Reception
and Assistant Manager should be notified immediately of the continued Out of Order Status of the
room and given an approximate time frame for completion of the task.
