Some teacher consider the potential effects of grades on student motivation and self-concept, in the belief that school should encourage and promote student success [Schlechty,1990]. They believe that grades have the potential either to lower motivational levels, depending on students’ either to raise or lower motivational levels, depending on student’ views of grades and their beliefs about their personal competence.
