The Centre has approved the opening of a border haat at Pangsau Pass along the Indo-Myanmarese border in Changlang district of Arunachal Pradesh to boost border trade with Southeast Asia in tune with its Look East Policy.
Last year, chief minister Nabam Tuki wrote a letter to the Prime Minister requesting for opening the trade on few specific points along the international border that Arunachal shares with the neighboring countries.
The Union external affairs ministry on Friday informed Tuki that under the memorandum of understanding on the establishment of border haats along the India-Myanmar border, which was signed during the visit of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to Myanmar in May last year, the Centre has approved the opening of a haat at Pangsau Pass, officials said here on Saturday.
