Tropical ecosystems are known for their high species richness. This creates a problem for those who are sampling biodiversity. No matter how much effort one makes in collecting data, more species are always entering into the sample ( Hubbell, 2001), making it virtually impossible to collect all species at a given site (totalalfa biodiversity). For this reason, it is necessary for field biologiststo recognize the limitations of their sampling methods and to evaluate the reasonable amount of time and work needed before theycease sampling.
