A total of 65 4-year-olds (M = 54.51 months, SD = 1.20, 32 girls and 33 boys) were recruited for this
experiment by telephone from the university’s participation pool. According to parental reports, all
children were typically developing and the racial/ethnic makeup of the sample was 83.1% White,
3.1% Asian, 1.5% Native American, 7.7% multiracial (i.e., more than one race), and 4.6% other/unknown,
