In my last post I talked about a couple companies that are taking the eco-friendly packaging “bull by the horns”. In this post I think I am going to continue expanding on the topic of green packaging and go over some of my favorite examples that I have found. 1) Chap-stick Tube The first is a simple eco-friendly packaging design, and a small step towards a greener world but every little step and idea counts. The design is for a chap-stick tube. The tube is made from paperboard which is basically just another word for cardboard, just a little bit thinner. I found these paper chap-stick tubes on the Chicago Paper Tube and Can Company’s website. The chap-stick push tubes are part of their “Ecopak” collection. If the earth tone of the paperboard paired with a simple and modern design could make for a youthful and hipster style of lip balm. 2) Hanger Hanger The next design is made from cardboard, so eventually it is decomposable, but what makes it so unique, is its ability to transform functions. It creates a multi-useable design that enables consumers to use the material much longer than just a simple box ever could. The cardboard box that your shirt is shipped in has the ability to be torn and folded into an actual t-shirt hanger. It was designed by Steve Haslip and I think it has a lot of potential for years to come. None have been used in production yet but it is a design that definitely is looking towards the future. The plastic bottle is 100% natural and organic and completely eco-friendly. The bottle is actually able to decompose in around 80 days. The company also actually prints directly onto the bottle to help cut back on the amount of plastic being used. You can recycle the bottle also. On the companies website, they state that the production process of the bottles used 60% less greenhouse gases than normal water bottle production does. 4) Screen Shot 2015-10-22 at 7.07.13 PMScreen Shot 2015-10-22 at 7.07.39 PM The last couple products that I’d like to talk about come from the company PUMA. PUMA actually is taking steps towards becoming a more sustainable and eco-friendly company. I found an article on Inhabitat’s website that gave some information about new shoe boxes that are a combination of a slim cardboard piece and a non-woven bag. The whole package is 100% recyclable and cuts back on huge amounts of things that are harmful for our environment including amount of plastic being used and diesel fuels used in production for example. Hope you enjoyed these examples of eco friendly packaging. There were many, many more that I found. I honestly had a hard time deciding on them. Expect another post soon! Thanks for reading!
