FEATURED ARTIST:
Shaban Bamerni
Shaban Bamerni was born 1976 in Kurdistan, Iraq where he was raised and educated. From a very young age, Shaban liked to paint both nature and people. He displayed great talent from the time he could speak!
From 1992 to 1997 Shaban went to the Fine Arts Institute, mastering in both color and anatomy and was mentored by one of his professors. He worked extremely hard to achieve good grades in school and as a result Shaban was rated second best in his department. He was then elected to be a teacher at the same school. At this time, he began to move away from realism art and started painting many more motifs in abstract expressionism; gravitating to a contemporary look. Both people and perspective play a very important role in Shaban’s paintings (people with unknown face). In most recent years Shaban has created with colors that are lighter and brighter! He works with acrylic colors and uses a knife technique instead of a brush.
Shaban is inspired from everything he hears and sees around him. Prior to his departure from Iraq in 1999, he exhibited and then decided to relocate to Norway because of circumstances in his country. Norwegian artists took notice of his obvious talent, and Shaban was offered the opportunity to open with them in an art exhibition. Shaban has ongoing exhibits in Iraq and Norway including his participation in an annual autumn exhibition, featuring 80 Norwegian artists as well as international artists. This year, Shaban has agreed to partake in a solo exhibition in Oslo, June 6 -11. Often he is asked to create commissioned paintings and his masterful works are sort after by many collectors.
When I asked Shaban what his favorite quote is he did not hesitate. “Learn the rules like a pro, so you can break them like an artist.” ~Pablo Picasso
