The first bicycles were called "hobby horses" or "dandy horses" They had no pedals and were so low that rider made them go by striking his feet on the ground. People laughed at these "dandy horses" so they soon went out of use. By the late 1800s, pedals were added to bicycles. People then used the first popular two-wheel vehicle. But it was so uncomfortable that it was called a born shaker. it was made of solid iron with wooden wheels and iron tires. The bicycle with large front wheel that most people have seen was dangerous to ride. Then came the safety bike that we know how have today with its rubber tires and wire spokes spring seat and lightweight frame.
