2.2 Students’ learning style
There are many different ways to learn, and it is useful to consider how students learn and also how to teach
them in educational programs. So often it has been assumed that provided something is taught, it will be learnt.
Such an implication ignores the variety of ways in which students learn. The ways in which students learn can be
divided into three broad categories (Felder 2002) namely (1) visual-related to something that can be seen such as
pictures, diagrams, symbols etc. (2) auditory - by hearing sounds and listening to spoken words, and (3)
kinesthetic –use of sensing elements such as smell, touch and taste. Lecturers generally assume that students
