Rice is the staple food of Thailand. Any deficiency in its security, instability, or quality will directly affect the country’s economy, primarily from export, and the entire population. Flooding, drought, and high temperature are key factors that affect farmers’ abilities to produce enough food, generate sufficient income, and ensure well being (Rosegrant et al., 2007). Stocks of key food staples such as rice, wheat, and maize are likely to increase at disproportionately lower rates. These trends imply that under contexts of rapid population growth the consequences of limited crop yields will be unevenly distributed across regions. Renewed efforts are also needed to increase the adoption of improved technologies to more effectively utilize natural resources for food production processes.
