In the realm of business, to knock out rivals is a common aim unless there will be dire consequences. Monopoly and monopsony are taken as the unfair business arrangement and there are laws against such practices as can be seen in the anti-trust law. But oligopoly and oligopsony are not uncommon. This is just to avoid a zero-sum game among them but it is unfair for consumers. But with the right chemicals mix, some form of monopoly and monopsony will emerge every now and then. Free competition remains only in economics textbooks. There is always some degree of collusion among profit mongers.
