Not all entities in Windows are objects. Objects are used in cases where data are intended for user mode access or when data access is shared or restricted. Among the entities represented by objects are files, processes, threads, semaphores, timers, and graphical windows. Windows creates and manages all types of objects in a uniform way, via the object manager. The object manager is responsible for creating and destroying objects on behalf of applications for granting access to an object's services and data.
