At first, the imaging capability of SAR and MIMO-SAR has
been tested by measuring their PSFs from a small metal of 3
cm diameter. The target was placed at 50 cm distance from the
antennas. The SAR scanned an area of 50 x 50 cm with a step
of 1 cm in both directions, which took about 4 hours for the
data acquisition. The mechanical scan of the MIMO-SAR was
50 cm with a step of 0.5 cm, which took about 40 minutes. The
data acquisitions were performed for the relatively large
number of averages, more specifically 512. Fig. 4 shows the
respective PSFs in 15dB dynamic range. The images were
obtained for a 3-D grid with 0.5 x 0.5 x 0.5 cm voxel. One can
see that the MIMO-SAR gives artifacts in the imagery at
-15 dB level.
