✱ Paper-Based Prototyping: Many participatory design techniques use paper-based mock-ups and prototypes to represent design ideas early in the development process [e.g., 14]. Such techniques provide a way for stakeholders to comment on the details of the design and the extent to which it meets the user’s characteristics and needs. In capturing the primary concerns of the users and, potentially, the major information flows likely to affect the system, the rich picture places the emerging design in its overall social and technical context.
