The raw effluents from milk processing have high
levels of oil and grease, suspended solids (SS), bio-chemical oxygen
demand (BOD), chemical oxygen demand (COD), nutrients
(N, P and K), and sodium salts used in washing the plant. The
domestic sewage from the staff quarters is mixed with this wastewater
before diversion to the effluent treatment plant (ETP) located
within the premises. The ETP employs the activated sludge process
(ASP) for secondary treatment.
