Mutton birds are harvested in New Zealand by customary
agreement to Maori people. The birds are harvested in traditional
way by Maori families on isolated islands around New Zealand
(please see the following link for more information Tı ¯tı ¯ – Mutton
birding in Te Ara – the Encyclopaedia of New Zealand). The samples
were brought from a fish monger and thus the exact information
on processing of the birds is not available.
