The early 1900s were time of exploration.Most of the world had been mapped but the polar regions were the last unknow places for people to explore. Scott first went to the Antarctic between 1901 and 1904 and then returned in 1910. Scoot hadn't planned to in the race to be the first person to reach the South Pole. He had simply planned another scientific trip in 1910,combined with an attempt to reach the South Pole.unknow to him at first,a Norwegian named Roald Amunsdsen was trying to re reach the Pole at the same time.Unfortunately,Scott lost the race to the Pole,and died on the journey back.His body was found in the Antarctic in a tent with some of his colleagues.the detail of his final days were described in Scoot's diaries.
