A polymer can be considered partly crystalline and partly amorphous. The crystalline domains act as a reinforcing grid, like a composite material, and improve the performance over a wide range of temperature. However, too much crystallinity causes brittleness. For many applications,it is important to understand and study this phenomenon. The X-Ray Diffractometer(XRD) techniques had been used successfully from long time for the crystallographic study of polymers. It is used for analyzing crystalline phases in solid materials, determining the extent of crystallinity and identifying crystalline structure.
