In the building’s basement, a system of pipes is
used to pump in cold seawater from the
surrounding harbor for the building’s cooling
system, again reducing the need to
draw electricity from the city’s grid. The
building’s heating and cooling systems
must meet strict standards, including indoor
temperatures that cannot exceed 25ºC
for more than a set number of hours each
year and air quality standards that forbid a
carbon dioxide concentration of more than
800 ppm during working hours, notes Pedersen.
