We selected Udon Thani as our concert location because that is where young people are targeted by traffickers everyday.
Human trafficking is a global issue, with an estimated 21 million people living as victims of forced labour, and it is a particularly prevalent crime in the ASEAN region as more than 56% of global victims are in the Asia Pacific region. This is why it is so important to us to host a concert that will make waves through the ASEAN region.
Thailand is a source, destination and transit country for trafficking victims, meaning that people are trafficked from, through and into Thailand. They are trafficked for sexual exploitation, forced domestic work, begging, and forced labour in the fishing, construction, factory and low-end garment industry.
Udon Thani is a known area for human trafficking as there are higher levels of poverty and low levels of awareness. Young people, especially new graduates are often targeted by traffickers as they can be seen as easier targets due to their eagerness to secure employment and might not take the proper precautions in ensuring an opportunity is real. Our live event will combine music with important information that will empower and equip concert-goers with the tools they need to protect themselves from traffickers.
Whilst youth are certainly vulnerable to human trafficking, I also believe they have the most power to end it. They are our future leaders and change agents. By engaging and empowering them to raise awareness about modern slavery, they can protect themselves and ensure that future generations live in a slave-free world.
