Glauber‟s salt, was prepared by dissolving salt cake in mother liquor, removing
impurities, clarification and crystallization. The solution is neutralized by treating it with a paste
of chloride of lime, followed by milk of lime in sufficient amounts. The impurities – iron,
magnesium and calcium - starts to precipitates and are allowed to settle. The clear remaining
solution is run to crystallizers. The mud of precipitates is washed with water. When the clear
solution cools to room temperature, the pan is drained and crystals are obtained by
centrifugation.
