Breakfast is followed by a visit to the local market. Drive to VESALI (Wethali). The former 2.7 square miles large city was developed by King Mahataing Chandra during the Vesali Dynasty believed to have lasted until the 8th century. Visit the ‘Wethali Great Image’ from 327 AD, a huge sitting Buddha image made out of one piece of sandstone. In the afternoon you will have a chance to do a leisurely stroll through the narrow alleys of Mrak U to observe the local ways of life. Lunch at local restaurant.
OPTIONAL AT NO EXTRA COST: After visiting VESALI continue by car to DANYAWADDY (36 km away, around 1 ½ hour journey on a very bumpy road). See the MAHAMUNI PAGODA, built during the period of Danyawaddy Dynasty. It once housed the famous Mahamuni, a huge bronze image which was, according to legend, cast during Buddha’s visit to Rakhine. Nowadays the famous image sits in Mandalay. (This side trip to DANYAWADDY is mentioned as optional as the journey along the road is very bumpy and quite uncomfortable. In case clients will prefer not to visit DANYAWADDY the normal afternoon program will be followed.). During this optional tour a lunch box will be provided.
Dinner and overnight stay at Shwe Thazin Hotel (**) or similar in Mrauk-U.
