In both photosynthetic
and achlorophyllous orchids, mycotrophy is now thought
to be retained well into maturity as a source of carbon, even for
epiphytic species, such as Cephalanthera longifolia and Cephalanthera
damasonium (Leake, 1994; Gebauer and Meyer, 2003; Julou
et al., 2005; Abadie et al., 2006; Rasmussen and Rasmussen, 2007)
