Links between physical activity and health outcomes are well documented. Clear causative associations exist between increased physical activity and reduced morbidity and mortality from cardiovascular disease, hypertension, obesity, diabetes, respiratory disease, certain cancers, musculoskeletal and mental health problems. There is also some evidence of the specific benefit of cycling on health outcomes including reductions in mortality and weight gain.10,11 Despite this
evidence, levels of physical activity have declined in many countries over recent years.
