The Otaru Snow Light Path Festival is a winter festival that decorates the town of Otaru in snow lanterns and small snow sculptures. It is timed to roughly coincide with the much larger Sapporo Snow Festival.
Otaru is a small fishing village located about 30 minutes by train from Sapporo. It's considered a picturesque town year around, particularly its canal area that's lined with old warehouses. This area is the main attraction of the festival when it is decorated in lights and candle lit lanterns. Another site a few blocks north of the canal known as Temiyasen Kaijo is also decorated. It's a walkway that the town built from the path carved by a discontinued rail line.
