N ATURE is colorful. Even before men lived upon
the earth the sky was blue, the forests green, the
rocks gray, the soil brown. Sunrises and sunsets
splashed golds and reds across the horizon, and from
every summer shower the rainbows arched.
No one knows whether the animals enjoy nature's
colors, but they appreciate their own finery. The gay
feathers of male buds, so useful in their courtships,
are examples.
