It was wonderful- just like the food in stories! Edward told the servants to go, and then he turned to Tom.
'What is your name, boy?'
'Tom Canty, sir.'
'And where do you live, Tom Canty?'
In a poor street, sir - called Offal Court.'
'Do you family? Asked Edward.
'Yes, sir,' replied Tom. 'I have a mother and two sisters. And a father, too, but he is not important to me - sorry for saying so.'
'Is he not kind to you?' Edward asked.
'Not to me or to anyone, sir, Tom replied. 'He hits me.'
'Then tonight he shall be a prisoner in the Tower of London,' Edward said, angrily. 'My family will -'
'Please, sir,' said Tom. 'You forget that he is very poor. The Tower of London is only for important men.'
'That is true,' Edward said. 'Tell me, what do you do every day in this place, Offal Court?'
'I play with my friends,' explained Tom. 'We often sing and dance. In the summer, we swim in the river. We run and fight in the mud, too.'
'I would like to take off my shoe and play in the mud,' said Edward. 'Just once.'
'And I'd like to wear a prince's clothes,' replied Tom. 'Just once.'
Then you shall,' said Edwar. 'We shall change clothes!'
