few attempts, she would make up a word that
she thought would fit based on the first few
letters of the word. If the word had an irregular
orthographic pattern, Gretchen would usually
struggle with the word, unless she had
seen it several times before and was able to
read it automatically. Her weaknesses in decoding
and word attack, made her reading
rate slow, and monotone, which lacked both
accurate phrasing and prosody.
