I think that if Facebook were to operate in China under their restrictions it would drastically change its role. It would not be a site where people could share the atrocities committed by men like Joseph Kony or the kidnapping of Christian girls in the Congo. The Chinese government would prevent any relevant news from being released to the public because they believe it would endanger the country. They are not receptive to the possibility of public unrest caused by their displeasure of the country’s current events. In order for Facebook to operate affectively they would need to do research or have that sect of the company run by someone who is familiar with Chinese restrictions on media. Even so there is still a risk that many people will get arrested for sharing information that they shouldn’t. The situation would be a complicated one, which is very risky and could possibly end up with Facebook being banned in China like many other sites.
