ne recount has revealed when Ayutthaya, the former capital of Thailand was surrounded and invaded by the Burmese troops in 1976, Phraya Tak (Sin) with his 500 troops had broken out and marched to settle down and arrived at the vicinity of what is now Pattaya before keeping on his journey to Jantaburi, then came back to strike back and expelled the Burmese invaders out of Thailand in 7 months. Finally he could proclaim the independence. After that he established a new capital at Thonburi and ascended himself the throne and became known as King Taksin the Great on December 28, 1976. Accordingly the place where King Taksain the Great had marched through and had his troops a rest was called ‘Thap Phraya’(which means the Army of Phraya or a general in English)
