In the year 1955, the Chiang Mai Municipal Authority moved the slaughterhouse to an area near these communities. People whose occupations were connected with the slaughterhouse moved in to settle around the temple, Wat Hua Fai, and along Khlong Mea Kha. In 1966 a radio broadcasting station was erected opposite this slaughterhouse. It had special programs for the highland people in their own ethnic languages.
