The plants were grown under these conditions for 10 days (growing period). Thereafter, the non-penetrating osmolyte polyethylene
glycol (PEG 6000) was added to a freshly prepared SNS at a water
potential of 0.2MPa (53.6g/L) (PEG plant) except for the control
plants for which the SNS was renewed. In this way, the plants were
subjected to water stress for 3 days.
