4.3. Perception of farmers on soil erosion indicators and botanical parameters: categorical information among regions
In total, 96% of the respondents disclosed that increased soil erosion was one of the main challenges to cattle production in their region, and thus had considerably affected their livelihood (P < 0.01) (Table 3). However, in accordance with 94.2% of the respondents, the magnitude of soil erosion was significantly higher in the LAR (P < 0.05) compared to the other two regions. Similarly, the majority of respondents (81.6%) perceived that cattle from other regions traveled to graze in this severely eroded region. The lower the altitude, the more farmers perceived an increased trend of gully formation and expansion (P < 0.001). Nonetheless, the grazing capacity of rangelands decreased as the land degradation status increased from the HAR to the poor condition range sites of the LAR (P < 0.05).
