2.2.4 General Comments
Make a copy of the configuration files before starting the installation.
For example, copy all four files to a temporary directory.
As an added measure, copy all of the *.INI files and the *.GRP files from the windows directory, also.
When you install a new device or software, do not allow the device manufacturer’s installation routine automatically make the changes to the configuration files, if possible. Some installation routines do not give you the option.
Make a note of the changes that need to be made and make the changes yourself manually.
If you cannot, use the DOS FC command (FC /L C:CONFIG.SYS C:VIPERWINSETUPCONFIG.EOP or FC /L C:AUTOEXEC.BAT C:VIPERWINSETUPAUTOEXEC.EOP) to examine the changes made.
The reason for this is that the installation routine will probably place the changes in either the first section or the [common] section. Either way, the Viper Operational Program may not operate correctly on the flightline. In addition, if the EMM386 device driver line is changed, certain portions of the Viper OP will not work (i.e., CSFDR Decompression and 1553-interface).
