Let me start with the positives first: I spent a week in Bangkok and found staying at this hotel and visiting local attractions and restaurants from this hotel's location to be perfectly safe, despite protests. Travelling with a baby isn't easy and one of the biggest challenges is feeding the baby everyday with either home cooked or quality local food. I'm grateful to Ms. Suphawadi, who works at cafe 9 in the evening shift, for going out of her way every night to help us prepare just the right food for the baby in the group. Aswin at reception was also of great help and ensured prompt check-in and -out process. We stayed at Centara during the Chinese new year and enjoyed the Dim Sum buffet among other things. Views from the 20th floor rooftop restaurant Chili Hip are fabulous and so is the pasta served there! The location of the hotel is fantastic - right opposite Pratunum market with 5 of the top shopping malls in Bangkok at walking distance. Now the negatives: None of the sliding washroom doors in rooms have locks or even a latch. All power switches, charging points, lamps, are within 2 feet from the ground - hard to recommend such rooms to people travelling with babies. Cafe 9 is strict with morning buffet timings and I felt Thanokorn, a cafe 9 attendant, was needlessly hostile with us during our stay - not appreciated at all. We stayed in the superior room and I honestly think most double rooms are way too small - I almost always felt cramped for space with luggage. Most hotels offer a master switch close to the bed to switch lights off at night, but the one in my room 1633 didn't offer me full control over all the lights in the room and there is scope for improvement there. Toilets are clean, WIFI speed good and available in rooms, lobby & cafes. Bell service is dependable with lots of taxis available almost everytime.
