serovar-specification was also detected in these genes, and the results
were consistent with previous studies (Capuano et al. 2013;
Huehn et al. 2010). Among the prophage-related genes, sodC1 encodes
a periplasmic Cu/Zn superoxide dismutase, and was found
only in certain strains of the most highly pathogenic Salmonella
serotypes (Fang et al. 1999). In total, 34.0% of the isolates in our
study harbored sodC1, including all S. Typhimurium, S. Enteritidis,
and S. Weltevreden isolates.
