In an ordinary grocery store or supermarket many unnecessary productsare diplayed at the checkout counters. Why does the store do this? A store management has some good reasons. By thy time the customers are ready to pay for a purchase, they have already made rational decisions on what they need to buy. They feel that they have done a good job of choosing the product. The customers are tempted at this point. The displays of chewing gum, chocolate bars, candy, and magazines are very attractive. They persuade the shoppers to buy something, not for rational but emotional motives. For example, the customers do not plan to buy candy, but while they are waiting to pay money, they may suddenly decide to buy some. This is what the store manager hopes that the customers will do. The customers simply follow his plan.
