Students across the nation are subjected to drug testing in their high schools.
Some people think this is necessary and some think it violates their rights. These students
that are taking drugs and are proved positive through whatever method of testing their
school uses are in for some consequences. These consequences are not fun and are not
what the student or parent wants to deal with. But if the student has a problem with drugs
and are caught for it then these consequences should help them.If a student is tested for drugs for the first time and the results come back positive
for any type of drugs they must do the following procedures in order to still play on their
team. They must provide proof of completing a substance abuse evaluation by a licensed
substance abuse treatment provider or a certified substance abuse counselor. The
designated public high school staff person will refer the student who tests positive and the
parents or guardian for a no or low cost professional substance abuse evaluation through a
community agency such as the Council on Alcohol and Drug Abuse (CADA) or an
approved and qualified provider of the family’s choice. An evaluation will provide
recommendations to the family on the types of services available that can provide this
assistance.
