Ta Fantastika Theatre in Prague presents a highly entertaining black light theatre adaptation of Alice in Wonderland.
But Aspects of Alice is only loosely based on the classic Lewis Carroll tale, the rest is for your mind to decide, as you are submerged into this world of illusory creations and hidden secrets.
Black light theatre is a typically Czech art form. The show is a magical mix of mime, modern dance, ballet and dramatic sounds.
The principal is simple. Everything is based on the black box trick, which takes advantage of the imperfection of the human eye: the eye cannot distinguish between black on black. Actors dressed in black cannot be seen against a black background, so props operated by them appear to move by themselves, before our eyes.
With clever lighting effects, these strangely moving objects play such a strong role in the unfolding drama, that they become as important as the actors to the production.
