There are a lot of critics on punishments for crime: should it be fixed for each type of crime or circumstances and motivation are also taken into consideration. This essay will examine both side of the issue and my opinion will be provided.
One reason supporting fixed punishment is that it creates standard which leads to disciplinary society. When people know what certain punishments they will get if they do the wrong thing. they are afraid and avoid doing that. I personally think that penalty should be fixed for some particular crimes; if you intentionally killed someone, you deserve death penalty without any exceptions. Moreover, with fixed punishments, it is fair for criminals: Once they do the same violations, they get equal penalties so this helps eliminating bias perception during judgment process. It’s also very delicate to include all factors such as criminal thoughts or situations into consideration: no one can be sure if punishment is fairly given or not.
On the other hand, some say circumstance and motivation for doing crime should be taken in to consideration when giving punishment. Due to the fact that people were born unequally: some get everything they want without asking or doing while other are not. Some who struggle for earn a living whit lots of pressure have more chance to become criminal. If they have a choice, I think they will not doing such things. So, maybe we cannot just blame on criminals but rather consider what are the indeed reasons for making crime.
Overall, I personally think that giving certain punishments for crime is better in order to promote peaceful and unbiased society.
