In order to fully support the analysis of the
performance of entire logistic chains from several
perspectives and objectives, and for each level of
decision (strategic, tactical and operational), one
needs an experimentation environment, including
a set of logistic models, which permits the quick
and easy construction of these models. Because
of the similarity of the requirements and experimentation
environment to those of a chemical
laboratory we will call this environment a logistic
laboratory (Evers et al., 1994). The properties
and characteristics of such a logistic laboratory
are described in Section 4.3. TASTE and DPSS
are two examples of logistic laboratories and are
described in Section 4.4.
