outcomes, novel, efficacious, and individualized
rehabilitative approaches for women with CHD are
needed.14,23 These approaches include addressing
the logistical barriers to attendance; redesigning rehabilitative
services that are stage-matched, gendersensitive,
and reflect women’s roles; attending to their
unique health and interpersonal needs. The purpose
of this article is to describe a theoretically based
behavior change intervention designed exclusively for
women that is currently being tested in a randomized
controlled trial of women at one CR site.
