Conclusion
In conclusion, this study demonstrates a beneficial action of testosterone
on hepatic lipid deposition in cholesterol-fedmice, amechanism
that is independent of the classic AR. The detailed mechanisms of these
metabolic effects remain unclear and certainly warrant further investigation,
however the increased expression of FASN and ACACA in Tfm
mice indicates that testosterone may exert its protective effects on hepatic
steatosis by influencing de novo lipogenesis. In addition, increased
lipid deposition is present in the livers of Tfmmice on normal chowdiet
supporting the growing evidence that testosterone deficiency could be a
risk factor for the development and progression of hepatic steatosis.
